The following exchange was a part of “The Letter Program”, a program in which the top brass of two sides of a brutal civil war agreed to let the prisoners of war that they captured have a correspondence with the prisoners their enemy took.
It was agreed that random prisoners from each side would be selected and partnered up with one of their enemies, both captive. When a letter was written there were special channels which ensured the letters would reach their destinations untampered.
