Many readers first met Charles W. Jay in Barbara E. Bull's 2013 book, A Point of View, Blackberry Ridge 1871-1884. She introduced Jay's Erudite, satirical writing in the context of his submissions to Oceana County, Michigan newspapers, opining on many topics, and carrying on a heated argument with his neighbors about the difficulties of life on "The Ridge"

Since then, Bull has continued to research the 19th century writer whose home was just a half-mile west of her farm and market. in 1874, Jay published My New Home in Northern Michigan, and Other Tales; a literate, lyrical, and humorous chronicle of his experience establishing a farm in the largely unsettled territory, as well as fascinating stories of local history, tall tales, Native American lore, and even poetry.

This commemorative edition includes a complete reprint of Jay's Book and archival articles by and about Jay that Bull has collected over the years. Many selections feature Jay's life on the east coast where he had a long career as a journalist and political activist before relocating to Michigan.
